A notice in the Herald on Sunday warned that a key deadline for leaky homeowners happens on 27 June 2016 when applications for the Financial Assistance Package ("FAP") close. The FAP provides assistance to homeowners to repair their homes in the form of a contribution of up to 50% of repair costs (25% from the Crown and 25% from a liable territorial authority).
As the actual contribution could be much less than 50% depending on MBIE's approach to the issue of betterment, homeowners should get legal advice on whether they can achieve a better outcome by filing a claim in the Weathertight Homes Tribunal.
